Are You Serious About Weight Loss?

Two out of three Americans are overweight.  The weight loss industry is a multibillion dollar business.  Most weight loss advertisements promise fast results if you’ll just take their product, follow their program, or eat their food.  They would have you believe that you can lose weight without changing anything else in your life.

Weight loss is NOT easy!  Food is a central part of our lives.  We eat when we are happy and celebrating.  We eat when we are sad.  Most of us don’t need a reason to eat.  We love food!

I’m a doctor, husband, father of six, little league coach, chauffeur, and all of the other jobs associated with family and work.  I’ve gained weight, lost weight, and then gained it all back, plus some.  I’ve tried a variety of exercise programs, diets, and even supplements designed to help with weight loss.  I know the frustration of finally deciding I need to lose weight, restricting my calories, and being in the gym regularly, and not being successful with weight loss.  Not until I became familiar with metabolic testing to determine my specific caloric needs did I realize that it’s not about eating less, it’s about eating the appropriate amount, and the only way to know that, is to scientifically determine my RMR, or resting metabolic rate.  I also realized that it wasn’t about exercising harder, it’s about exercising smarter.  The exercise metabolic assessment measures how your body responds to exercise and determines how hard or how easy you should exercise.  This information allows you to develop an exercise plan that will train your metabolism to burn more fat and calories – even when you are at rest.  Your time is precious; now you can maximize the effectiveness of every workout.

YOUR METABOLISM MATTERS!

Each of us has a unique metabolism.  Metabolism is essentially the way you and I burn calories.  Since 1919, doctors, dieticians and other weight loss professionals have relied on the Harris-Benedict equation to estimate an individual’s caloric need.  Unfortunately, this determination can be off by 1000 calories; either underestimating or overestimating total calories by 500.  The good news is that there is a simple, affordable way to scientifically determine your resting metabolic rate.  The program I’m talking about is called Active Metabolic Training and has already helped almost 300 patients lose weight and keep it off.  This program will work for you because you know exactly how many calories you should consume and how many calories you should burn.  This is the foundation for any successful weight management program.  Both the resting and exercise test take about 10-15 minutes to complete.  Using these results, patients receive individualized counseling regarding nutritional needs and exercise programs.  For those who need it, EnergySmart, our online nutrition module offers over 30 registered dietician meal plans, along with grocery lists, recipes, and dietary analysis.

Our success is based on a realistic program centered on REAL food and moderate exercise, including 3-4 days of cardio and two strength days.  This is not the kind of program that patients can’t wait to complete.  Rather, the typical response of our patients is that they feel “trained” to make good food choices, and to develop realistic cardio and strength programs.  This truly leads to a new, healthy lifestyle.  One that will help you maintain a healthy weight, prevent illness, and simply stay well.

If you’re serious about weight loss Dr. Gazaway and his staff would love to help you.  After your initial consultation and metabolic testing, you will be ask to log your food and estimate calories consumed.  The following week you are seen back to discuss your individualized weight loss program, and for Dr. Gazaway to review your food log to discuss eating habits.  Each week the doctor monitors your progress and personally reviews your food log with you.  You will learn how to make healthy food choices (even when you’re out to eat), how to plan during your busy schedule, and how to achieve the appropriate content of fat, carbohydrate, and protein in your diet.

Maybe you’d like to gain weight, or maintain your current weight; this program will work for you too.  Knowing your metabolism, you can use this information to compliment any current successful weight management program you’re using.

We have a Wellness Center onsite which offers individualized and group strength training programs.  Please visit us on the web at www.hoytgazaway.com, or call 678-714-1103 to schedule a consultation and metabolic testing.  You can do it!  We’d love to help you make it happen!
